Right now, you are reading a blog written by the campers at the best camp in the world. Today we woke up and finally got to sleep in! Hallelujah! We had a nice breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon at 7:45. Then we loaded the vans with bathing suits on and a lot of excitement. The town we drove to had a great and funny name, which is Maupin. We signed our waivers and loaded the rafts onto the buses before we drove to the Deschutes River. While we were driving, we saw some of the rapids, like the Boxcar and ACDC. The reason why one of the rapids is called Boxcar is because a train derailed due to a rockslide and a boxcar fell into the river. Don’t worry, it’s gone now but it left an awesome hole that created an awesome rapid. When we went through it, coach Kevin fell out of raft and created quite a spectacle. Next, we organized into groups for rafts and created our team names. Some of our rafts’ names were Harvard Dropouts and Flexseal. Once we got into the rafts we pushed out and paddled to our first rapid, which was amazing. We continued down the river and came across the only class 4 of the day, Oak Springs. Then we stopped at the White River and went down a natural water slide. Once we got off the rafts and loaded the buses, the coaches did their annual “water gun surprise.” Then we drove back to the resort and enjoyed a tasty dinner of white rice and chicken. After dinner, we then held a birthday celebration for Evan, had a short meeting, and went back to our rooms to prepare for slalom tomorrow. Rafting was such a great experience and we think that everyone should try it. Today was amazing but tomorrow we are starting slalom and we are going to have another great day.
